| THURSDAY, 25 NOVEMBER 2004 - WHAT WE ARE THANKFUL FOR | ||
|
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Being away from your family on big holidays like this really sucks. However, with everything that has happened over the last 10 plus months, I think we have a lot to be thankful for. I have asked for contributions from several people in the CSH. Here are the things that we are thankful for:
We are thankful for the opportunity to serve our country in the manner that we have during the last ten months. We are thankful that the insurgents usually have poor aim with their mortars and sometimes they are not very good at making fuses. We are thankful for the ass-whooping the Strykers, MP's, and Iraqi forces have been handing out here in Mosul recently, we haven't had a mortar attack in over one week (knock on wood). We are thankful that the 228th CSH will be arriving here soon to replace us. We are thankful for our colleagues who, in spite of our differences, manage to pull together as a team and get our collective mission accomplished. We are thankful to be working with one of the most outstanding groups of docs, nurses, medics, and soldiers. Individuals that everyday give everything they have to take care of each other and our wounded patients. We are thankful to be alive and not to have been injured by the mortar attacks (I guess we are thankful for the guardian angel that watches over us). We are thankful for the people in the guard towers, who protect this base while we sleep in our beds at night. We are thankful to be surrounded by such a great group of people. We have met a lot of very interesting people that have made our lives more challenging, more fun, and just simply more pleasant. We are thankful for this life experience. Iraq is far from the best place in the world, but we have learned so much about ourselves and others. We have discovered new qualities within ourselves that we didn't know were there. Iraq has been a very enlightening experience. We are thankful for family, good health, and good friends. We are thankful that we might be home with our families in less than two months. We are thankful for our spouses, who love us so much, in spite of all our flaws...or maybe because of them. We are thankful that we have wonderful spouses and children waiting patiently at home for us. We are thankful for our families and the Love we have. We are thankful for our health. We are thankful that we are from a country where people have freedom. We are thankful that we are fortunate to live in the country that we do. Democracy is the most imperfect form of society... until you see the alternatives. We are most thankful for the love and support we have received from all our family and friends. This support comes in all different forms: care packages, letters, encouraging words, emails, pictures, videos, personal hygiene products (such as listerine), and many more. We would not be able to do this year long deployment without all this constant support. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! |
